Web Site Development . . . Step 1 - Research

Purpose:

1. What's the purpose of the site?

2. What type of site is it? Customer support, marketing, advertising, personal, entertainment, news, portal, educational, ...a combination?

3. What is the mission statement of this site?

4. Who controls the site? Who has the final "sign-off" on the site's appearance, structure, and content?

Audience:

1. Who is the core audience(s)? Is there more than one audience?

2. What will those audiences hope to gain or experience by
coming to this site?

3. What audiences are you not trying to attract? What can't you do here?

Measurable Goals:

1. What are specific goals for this site?

2. How can progress towards those goals be measured?

3. What objective marks do you need to hit in order for the site to be considered "successful"?
(For example, 100 orders per month)

Other Sites:

1. Are there other sites like this one already?

2. What will make yours different from those?
Why would someone come to your site instead of another?
(For example, do you have unique content?)

3. What do you like best about similar sites?

4. What do you dislike about similar sites?

Web Site Development . . . Step 2 – Text

Introduction
Write an introductory paragraph for your home page. This is like a front door to your home page on the Internet. You want to invite visitors to step in and look around.

Mission Statement

Write 1 or 2 short sentences that describe your company’s philosophy and ambitions. Something like " to become the leading provider of…." – " we are the area’s leading supplier of ..."

Company Profile
Describe who you are, and how you provide value to your customers.

If you belong to any industry associations, you may want to list them here.

What do other people say about your business? You may want to use some quotes from satisfied customers.

Who are the people in your company? You may want to include a message from your president or biographies of your founders.

Services
Write a brief overview of the services you provide. Include photographs or describe graphics you would like used to depict the services you offer. A great sales pitch is to show off your work with testimonials from satisfied clients, you should obtain permission to show photos and to publish all or parts of their "Thank You" letter.

Products
Write a brief overview of the various products your provide. Group them by category. List your most important, or top selling items first. In your groups, please note which particular products you would like shown, please include diskettes of products, or describe products in detail so we may locate a graphic to show an example of your product.

Copyright Permission Forms are required to be on file with your web designer before any images can be used or scanned in. Once permission letters are on file, catalogs may be scanned in and or pictures may also be borrowed from your distributors web sites.

Meta Tags
Meta tags are code words which the search engines find you under. List the counties and local cities in your area. Please list the any and all headings and or keywords in which you want to be found. (it may help to think of them as yellow page categories)
